Art Students

The artistic talents of Greenon students Violet Breland, 8th grade, and Senior Kaity Fields claimed top honors in this year’s Congressional Art Show. The competition showcases exceptional artwork chosen by US House of Representatives members to represent their congressional districts in the US Capitol building for a year.

Violet Breland, an 8th-grade student, has again proven her exceptional talent and dedication by winning the Congressional Art Show for the second consecutive year. Her oil painting, titled “The Glisten of Crimson,” has earned first place for Representative Mike Carey’s Ohio 15th Congressional District. Her masterpiece will be displayed in the US Capitol Building beginning in July.

Senior Kaity Fields’ acrylic painting, “A Delicate Balance,” secured second place in the competition. Kaity’s artwork will be displayed in Representative Carey’s office for the upcoming year.

Reflecting on their success, Greenon’s art teacher, Mr. Kevin Ferguson, expressed pride in Violet and Kaity’s accomplishments. He stated, “It is an honor and privilege to work with Violet and Kaity daily. They are two of the most driven students I have ever met, dedicating significant time both inside and outside the classroom to perfecting their artistic abilities.”

Mr. Ferguson also highlighted the rarity of Violet’s back-to-back wins, emphasizing the dedication and talent she possesses as a middle school student. He noted, “It is an amazing accomplishment for any student to win Congressional once and have the honor of having their piece hang in the US Capitol for a year. So, for Violet to win the competition twice before she has even started high school is absolutely astounding.”

Congratulations again to Violet Breland and Kaity Fields on their outstanding achievements at the Congressional Art Show!
