Last Friday, January 12th, Ms. Lindsey Harper hosted Superintendent Mr. Knapke for a special session with 7th and 8th-grade students in her Developing Character and Leaders elective course. This newly offered course strongly emphasizes citizenship, community engagement, and practical leadership skills. The most recent unit students completed was a unit on citizenship. The unit started with students researching the Village of Enon, the Greenon community, and local organizations dedicated to community service.
Mr. Knapke's presentation centered on his leadership responsibilities and citizenship principles. Students gained insights into Mr. Knapke's role as the leader of our district and his role in leading the strategic planning process that guides the district's initiatives. He shared specific focuses on goal setting, continuous monitoring of goals, and the delegation of responsibilities to various leaders involved in the district strategic plan.
The Developing Character and Leaders course class actively explores and applies leadership qualities through cooperative learning, public speaking exercises, and hands-on involvement in planning and facilitating events like junior high First Friday assemblies and a PBIS fundraiser. Mrs. Harper is cultivating a culture of engagement and responsibility by providing students with an active role in these initiatives.
Superintendent Knapke's visit inspired the students and showcased the practical application of leadership principles in real-world scenarios.
