Speedway President Tim Griffith shakes hands with Greenon Board President Dennis Henry during the presentation of a generous donation from the Marathon Petroleum Foundation to Greenon STEM.

A generous donation from the Marathon Petroleum Foundation, Inc., a philanthropic affiliate of Marathon Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries, including Speedway LLC, will enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) opportunities at Greenon Schools.
The $262,000 donation will enhance the STEM program through the purchase of drone equipment, robotics equipment, leading professional photo editing and graphic design software, and state-of-the-art computers, cameras, and video equipment.
“For the last decade, Greenon has worked to build a top-notch STEM education program that will flourish with this support,” said Superintendent Brad Silvus. ”We look forward to seeing what our talented teachers and students can do with this investment in the future of Greenon Schools.”
The donation will support the STEM program, led by Mr. Tom Jenkins and Mr. Jim Shaner, as well as Business Technology and Digital Photography courses taught by Ms. Teresa Walton.
“Greenon’s STEM program has launched countless students on a path toward some of the most rewarding and in-demand careers options available today,” said STEM Educator Tom Jenkins. “With this investment to our program, our students will have the chance to work with leading professional equipment and software in our program. We are grateful for Speedway’s community involvement and for the support of outstanding opportunities for students in Greenon Schools.”
Speedway President Tim Griffith presented the donation to the Greenon Board of Education at a December 19 board meeting.
STEM education not only exposes students to opportunities in fast-growing, in-demand fields, but it is also credited with helping to close gender and racial gaps in science and math fields. Students who study STEM learn critical skills for their future, including problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, curiosity, decision making, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
