My name is Trent Green and I was the committee chairman leader of the Fall Blood Drive on October 14, 2020. Weeks prior to the blood drive, my AG class, which consisted of Noah Lambert, Bass Moore, Kacie Sizer, Hayley Roush, Kaylynn Wilhelm, Emma Bennet, and Brandi Mamer, began planning for the blood drive.
First, we had to set achievable goals for the blood drive including how many people we wanted to sign up and how many pints of blood we wanted to donate. Next we wrote up an announcement that described how old you have to be to sign up for blood drive, what days you can sign up, and where to turn in the forms needed to participate in the blood drive. We also had to set a schedule on who would sit in the cafeteria during lunch to sign people up.
On the sign up days prior to the blood drive, members of my AG class would take turns signing students up for the blood drive. We had to make sure that each student that signed up received the forms so they could participate in the blood drive. If a student was 16 years old, they needed two forms, and if they were 17 years old or older they only needed one form. We told the students to turn in the forms to Mrs. Spink in the main office who had the binder of all the students participating in the blood drive. We also gave Mrs. Spink a schedule of the time each student signed up to donate. On the schedule, she wrote beside each student's name what class they were in at the time they signed up. She also printed out students' IDs as students need to have an ID present when they get called down to donate blood. We can not thank Mrs. Spink enough for helping us with the blood drive.
The day of the blood drive was here and my AG class had to arrive at Greenon by 7:15 in the morning to help set up tables in the gym for the blood drive. We set up ten tables throughout the gym. We also set up a check in table at the front of the gym by the front doors where all the students will be coming. I was in charge of checking in all the students.
When it was time to go down and get the first three students, Kacie Sizer, Kaylynn Wilhelm, and Hayley Roush went down to each of the rooms to get the students. The students would then come to my table to check in. I would make sure all the students had their forms signed and turned in, and make sure they had an ID on them. Once I checked the students in, I sent them to a table where they had to check in with the blood drive group and answer questions prior to getting their blood drawn. After that, Brandi Mamer and Emma Bennet would go down and get the next round of three students. This process would continue throughout the whole blood drive. Bass Moore and Noah Lambert would help me at the sign in table and they would go down and get students from class if needed.
Once the last student was done getting blood drawn, we began cleaning up the gym. We started by packing up the sign in table at the front of the gym. After that we took down all the tables and chairs, we put them back in the closet. We then helped the nurses of the blood drive clean up all the items that they had as well. After everything was out of the gym, Noah Lambert and I swept the entire gym. Once we got back in class after the blood drive, we did a plus delta chart to see what went well during the blood drive and what did not go well. Overall the blood drive went very well. Our spring blood drive will take place on February 3, 2021. We all cannot wait for the spring blood drive.
